PROJECT

ACT NOW Against Political Violence is a campaign developed by the Zimbabwean organisation National Constitutional Assembly and the Danish organisation Africa Contact.

In Zimbabwe the repressive regime uses systematic violence and rape as a weapon in the political struggle to maintain power. This campaign seeks to educate, mobilise and protect women who are active in the fight for democracy in Zimbabwe.

The campaign combines different approaches to empower women to stand up for their right to participate in democratic processes and protect themselves against the regime’s violent campaigns. Through the structures of grassroots based civic movements, women are educated and organised to form a strong voice for women’s right to participate in political processes at local and national level.

Through networks of civil society organisations, protective and support mechanisms are put in place to document the human rights violations and provide medical, legal and psychological support to victims of violence.

An important element in the campaign is to document and publish information about the violations taking place and to pressure Zimbabwean, regional and international policy makers to put an end to violence.
